Preparing for your child or young person's appointment
When your child has an appointment with the Cambridgeshire Community Paediatrics team, it is a good idea to be prepared for what to expect before you attend. On this page you will find all the information you need to get the most out of your child's appointment.

On the day
- Try to be punctual as this may have an impact on your appointment.
- An accompanying adult who knows the child or young person must be present when they are seen or examined by any health professionals in the Trust.
- Where possible, please do not bring any other children with you to the appointment.
- If you have a Parent Held Record (red book) please bring this with you.
- If they will need a drink (other than water) or a snack please bring something with you as we cannot provide this for you.
- You may wish to speak to the clinician without your child or young person being present; we would advise you bring an additional adult with you to sit with them in the waiting area.
What to do if you or your child is unwell
If you or your child are unwell in the 48 hours before the appointment please contact us by calling 0300 029 5050. You should not attend if any of the attendees have diarrhoea and vomiting, fever or a rash. When you contact us we can discuss alternative dates with you.

The following professionals may be present at your appointment. We sometimes have students or healthcare professionals attend to observe the clinic. We will ask you if you agree to them being present for the assessment.
- paediatricians

Telephone appointments
Telephone appointments will be made to your mobile phone unless you have indicated an alternative number to contact. Calls will be marked as ‘private’ or 'No Caller ID’. Please check your phone settings prior to your call to make sure these are not automatically blocked by your mobile provider.
Travel costs
Support is available for low-income families to cover the cost of travel to appointments:
Separated families
We are committed to supporting separated parents - where parents are separated, it is important that the views of both parents are represented. Separated parents should notify us of their situation before the appointment - this can be by email - as we are unable to offer an additional appointment.
If just one parent attends, they should notify the clinician of any parent who also needs to be sent formal documentation, ensuring address and contact details given are correct. Should this information not be shared with the clinician, any formal letters will be sent to the child’s registered home address only.
If you cannot attend
If you are not able to make the appointment please contact us by email or by phone on 0300 029 5050 (ask for the Community Paediatric Team) to rearrange.
As we are a specialist service, there is a high demand for these appointments. Please be aware that there may be a longer wait for an alternative appointment. Missed appointments are costly to the NHS and lead to increased waiting times for your child and other children, so please always contact us to rearrange if you cannot make an appointment for any reason.
